I’ve published a children’s book. My very first book!
Well technically, I did not publish the book. FriesenPress (one of the most prestigious book publishers in CANADA mind you) is my publisher.
I am the creator of the book; the person who wrote the story, and helped design the book— which makes me the author.
AUTHOR!
I like the sound of that word. It sounds so official.
My precious little, children’s picture book is titled, “Mommy’s Big, Red Monster Truck.”
You might be wondering where in the world I came up with this particular subject— especially those of you who know me personally because you know as well as I do that I am no Monster Truck expert.
No, not I.
I normally favor sensible vehicles rated for safety when shuttling a little boy (who is my pride and joy) around town.
Not a Monster Truck.
So, I will tell you a little story about how my book came to be.
When my son was a wee tot he LOVED Monster Trucks!
I mean he was obsessed.
Everything was about monster trucks. His favorite toys were monster trucks. His clothes had to have monster trucks on them. His birthday cakes were monster truck themed. He favored books about them too.
I was surrounded by MONSTER TRUCKS!
I would drive him to preschool in our small SUV in the mornings and these HUGE jacked up mega trucks would pass us by and he would shout from the backseat of our car, “Mommy, look! Monster Truck!”
He would then follow up that exclamation with, “Mommy, you need a monster truck! A big, RED Monster Truck!”
Oh my.
We would then spend the rest of our drive pondering what it would be like if indeed I drove us around in a monster truck.
It became a daily game of imagination for us. Every single morning we would talk about all the places we would go and fun things we would do.
For years after I would think to myself, “one of these days I am going to write a book about a Mommy and her boy and their monster truck.”
Hence the inspiration for my awesome book.
I finally took the plunge last winter and started researching children’s book publishers and found one that fit my needs and desires.
FriesenPress was the one.
My team has been incredible— supportive, professional, communicative, knowledgeable, informative (the list goes on). No detail left undone.
I am thrilled with the book we have created together and cannot wait to receive my first copies in the mail.
I also cannot wait for all of you to join in my joy and the thrill of a monster truck journey that was born out of a little boy’s magical, whimsical mind.
This is a real dream come true.
