Chef Asata Reid is one of the talented and food savvy women behind Small Bites Adventure Club, which introduces kids to fruits and vegetables in fun ways with interactive monthly kits – both for use at home and in the classroom.

The seasoned chef believes wholeheartedly when kids have the chance to prepare and taste fruits and vegetables, they can learn to not only like but love them.

Small Bites Adventure Club is all about teaching kids about fruits and vegetables but not focusing solely on health, but discovering the wonders behind it: how it’s grown, what it looks and smells like, and how to prepare a simple recipe.

Small Bites Adventure Club is a monthly subscription service (that ships nationally) focusing on a different (seasonal) vegetable each month and includes activities, a simple recipe and fun facts about that month’s veggie.

Chef Reid has over a decade of experience as a professional chef and community health educator. She holds degrees from International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Atlanta, Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism, a Master’s in Education from the University of Kansas, and Masters of Public Health at Emory University.

Earlier this year, she published, How to Feed a Kid, a book to help parents grow healthy eaters and is based off her thesis for her Masters at Emory University.

She is also a mom to three children ages 5-17, so she has a personal understanding of being a parent and getting kids to eat healthy foods.

In addition to her work with Small Bites, Reid works with Georgia Organics as a Farm to Early Care and Education Chef Educator and is actively involved in the food justice movement within schools and communities throughout Georgia. She is connecting schools/early care education centers directly to local farmers and, in doing so, teaching kids about where their food originates. In this initiative, children learn from an early age that there is a link between food and agriculture.

From her years of studies, her work as an educator, being one of the founders of Small Bites and a mom of three, Chef Reid has so much to share about keeping a balanced life, while ensuring that her children and thousands of others are receiving the proper nutrition they need.
